The Case of the Snippy Fashion Blogger
03 26th, 2007

fashion-magazine.jpgStyle Sherlocks sniff out clues.

In this week’s New York magazine, on newsstands today, assistant editor Emma Rosenblum investigates the identity of the anonymous fashionista who’s been blogging as “View From the Fourth Row”. The blogger’s sniping tone—she maintains that Vogue’s Anna Wintour has “the worst shoe taste,” likens Harper’s Bazaar editor Glenda Bailey to an “oompa-loompa,” and keeps a running tally of which editors are “victim/poseurs” (including W’s Alex White)—has caused a certain amount of consternation in that clubby world as well as a lot of finger-pointing as to whom she really is.

The latest top suspect, according to these style sleuths, is Cosmopolitan’s fashion director, Michelle McCool, who also has a Cosmo-sanctioned blog called Fun Fearless Fashion (which went up in September, about a month after Fourth Row’s debut). She emphatically denies it.

Casting Project Runway S4
03 21st, 2007

"Project Runway" has announced it’s auditions will take place over three days - Saturday, April 7, to Monday, April 9.

Details about where the open casting call will take place were’nt posted www.bravotv.com yesterday, but they are expected on the Web site soon - not only for New York, but also for Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.

The Web site does contain instructions on how to audition. "Be sure to bring (1) three articles of clothing of your own design, (2) a picture portfolio of your work and (3) a completed application form," the Web site says. The application form will also be posted soon on the site.

Bravo has not yet decided when the next season of "Runway" will premiere. Production is expected to commence this summer, when students at the Parsons School of Design, where much of the show is filmed, are on vacation.

Fashion Wars Creates Real Fashion Wars
03 1st, 2007

Zac PosenIn last seasons Fashion Wars Michael Kors was victorious but there were plenty of surprises. As the New York Times noted, Patrik Rzepski, a relative newcomer to the New York fashion scene, came third overall. Publisher David McIntyre declared that Fashion Wars is bringing a new democracy to fashion, joking that it’s the American dream all dressed up, where any designer, young or old, established or freshman, can be crowned Queen for a season.

Sadly not everyone wants to play.

There are a number of designers Fashion Wars would like to feature but who don’t want to play. Designers have nothing to fear: last season Michael Kors proved that the big brands have more than just name recognition. He stood strong and won with good design in a fair fight. Today’s consumers want to interact with their brands and Fashion Wars provides a protected environment for this to take place. Guy Trebay of the New York Times asked recently "Whatever Happened To Now?" It’s here; it’s called interaction between brand and consumer.

Fashion Wars is fun and educational, innovative and disruptive, with enormous potential to affect the world of fashion. It’s what the editors and buyers see each season but this time YOU choose. For instance, store buyers looking to see what outfits are getting traction may make more considered purchases; designers checking out the hits and misses from their collection can make changes. It’s democracy in accordance with ZOOZOOM’s philosophy of tools not rules. Of course for us as a fashion magazine it helps us plan our editorial features for fall.

Highly addictive, the more you play the more you learn.
