This summer saw the Madrid shows banning skinny models, and now followed by the death of anorexic model Ana Carolina Reston maybe that’s enough for the rest of the fashion industry to finally wake up to the dangers of the eating disorder.
Reston, 21, a 5′ 8" Brazilian model weighed only 88 pounds at the time of her death. She succumbed to an infection caused by anorexia nervosa, officials at Sao Paulo’s Servior Publico Hospital said.
And now Twiggy jumps on board in blaming Hollywood for it’s role in the skinny.

I AM COMPLETELY SHOCKED AT VH1′S NEW SHOW THE AGENCY. AS IF WE NEEDED MORE EVIDENCE THAT THE FASHION WORLD IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF THE DISTORTED IDEATIONS BEHIND EATING DISORDERS… THANK YOU WILHEMINA FOR PROVIDING UNDENYABLE PROOF. SHAME ON VH1 FOR PORTRAYING THIS DISGUSTING, DESTRUCTIVE BUSINESS IN AN EVEN SLIGHTLY POSITIVE LIGHT. DONT THESE PEOPLE HAVE ANY IDEA THAT THEY ARE THE REASON MILLIONS OF YOUNG PEOPLE ARE LIVING THE MISERABLE AND INEVITABELY SHORT LIFE THAT IS AN EATING DISORDER??!!!

Most models are not healthy, obviosuly. But some people are just little and tall. [Like Twiggy, when she first starting modeling.]
Although, I do believe that the media plays a huge role in how society feels about their bodies and their appearance. Banning models who’s weight is less than 100 pounds when they are 5′8″ and taller is completely acceptable. Why should we let them influence our lives… Being beautiful is alot more than just being unbelievably skinny and tall. I think models should only be aloud on the runway if their BMI is 16.0- 25.9. That is underweight to upper average.
Eating disorders are so dangerous, and the media is influencing us to obtain them.

I was a runway model back in the 50’s and 60’s. I was naturally thin, but very healthy. I’m saddened by the current crop of models who weigh so little. I find fault not only with the media, but with designers who insist upon showing their garments on very thin models. Designers set the standards! They need to change their attitudes and requirements!
